Timesaving Tips for Creating Web Sites

| Creating Classroom and School Web
Pages |
There is no substitute for planning when designing a web
site.
- Before you begin working on the actual web page, PLAN
your site. Know your audience and plan accordingly.
- Create an outline or storyboard to map out the structure of
your site. Include the following:
- Content
- Graphics - names of images you wish to include
- Links to other sites or links to pages within your
site
- Layout your pages (simple sketch will do here)
- Plan overall navigation - be consistent from page to
page
- Get yourself organized! Put all files associated with your web
site into a single folder.
- Create an image folder for all your graphics. Before you add
graphics to a web page, be sure that the image is saved in the
image folder.
- Create a template that contains all the items that will appear
on each of your web pages. When creating a new web page start with
the template and then add unique information. Be sure to begin by
saving the new page under a new name. This way your template does
not change.
- Use file names that indicate the content of your web pages.
For example, the name of this file is tips.htm
- Cut and paste information to save time. This is especially
helpful if your are entering the URL.
- Test your web pages on different browsers
